2016 Eastern Newfoundland Region NL02-EN
On April 7, 2016, the C-NLOPB announced its Calls for Bids in the Eastern Newfoundland and Jeanne d’Arc regions. The Call for Bids NL16-CFB01 (Eastern Newfoundland region) consisted of 13 parcels and a total of 2,949,252 hectares. The Call for Bids NL16-CFB02 (Jeanne d’Arc region) consisted of 3 parcels and a total of 354,552 hectares.

Multiple vintages of seismic data exist over this region of the Orphan Basin, with more recent 2D and 3D acquisitions available as multiclient data. The nearest offset wells to this sector are Hare Bay E-21, Blue H-28, Baie Verte J-57 and the recent Great Barasway F-66 well.
A Resource Assessment for the region was released on August 24, 2016.
Through the integration of satellite slick data, 2D long offset seismic, 3D long offset seismic and seabed coring, a new Lower Tertiary play trend has been identified in the West Orphan Basin. The discovery of this play trend is fully described in the following conference paper accepted for presentation at the Society of Exploration Geophysicists International Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas in fall 2016. This newly identified prospectivity resulted in Beicip-Franlab’s resource assessment identifying the in place resource potential of 25.5 billion barrels of oil and 20.6 trillion cubic feet of gas in this area.
