2018 Eastern Newfoundland Region NL18-CFB01
On April 5, 2018, the C-NLOPB announced its Call for Bids NL18-CFB01. The call included 16 parcels of land, nine new parcels were the focus of the 2018 Independent Resource Assessment which were broken into two separate land areas – 2018 A (Orphan Basin) and 2018 B (East Jeanne d’Arc Basin).

Area A:
Located ~330 km east-northeast of St. John’s, the sector lies in the central portion of the Eastern Newfoundland Zone and covers an area of ~16,000 km2. Water depths range from 180 m to 2,600 m.
Area B:
Located ~400 km east-southeast of St. John’s, the sector lies in the southern portion of the Eastern Newfoundland Zone and covers an area of 6,600 km2. Water depths range from 110 m to 1,350 m.
Using the insights from our work with Airbus satellite seeps survey and gravity and magnetics data, Nalcor Energy-Oil and Gas (now OilCo), in partnership with global seismic companies TGS and PGS, conducted one of the largest seismic programs in the world. By the end of 2017, over 170,000 line km of new 2D and 15,000 km2 of multi-client 3D seismic data had been acquired.
